Cleveland offers a variety of private school options. From day schools to boarding schools, single-sex educational environments, elementary and high schools, families can find a school that fits their child and his or her particular needs. The listing below provides an overview of some of the private school options in the Cleveland region.

Andrews Osborne Academy- The Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day (age 3 to grade 12) and boarding (grades 7-12) school near Cleveland. With beautiful campus locations in Willoughby and Painesville, the Academy offers early childhood, elementary, middle and secondary education and is committed students in their own multicultural setting. 

The Hathaway Brown School - Hathaway Brown is dedicated to excellence in education for girls, reaching well beyond, superb preparation for college. The true mission of the school is preparing students for life.  

The Hawken School - Hawken is an independent, college preparatory day school serving approximately 950 students in preschool through grade 12. With the mission to provide "forward-focused preparation for the real world through the development of character and intellect", Hawken offers capable and committed students a learning environment that is coeducational, pluralistic and nonsectarian.  

Lake Ridge Academy - Founded in 1963, Lake Ridge enjoys the unique position of being the only independent school on Cleveland’s west side. The program is a rigorous one, designed for the academically able, as well as the highly motivated student of average ability. Lake Ridge is committed to the entire learning process: the development of both intellect and character. Students develop a genuine concern for their fellow human beings and learn to respect diversity while striving toward their own individuality.  

The Laurel School - Laurel School, founded in 1896, is a nationally recognized, college preparatory, independent day school for girls, kindergarten through grade 12, with a coeducational early childhood program. Students delight in intellectual and physical challenges and they develop bonds of friendship that last a lifetime. They are young women who become leaders in their colleges, work places and communities.  

The Lawrence School - Lawrence focuses on the unique learning needs of students with learning disabilities and attention deficits, and its specialized programs and methods are designed to help these students reach their full potential. In small classes, students receive the individualized attention they need to become both successful and confident learners. Each student's learning strengths and challenges are assessed and continually reviewed throughout the year, and individualized learning plans ensure that no student is placed above or below his/her ability level. On the High School level, students also benefit from Advanced Placement courses as well as from exemplary college placement services program.  

The Lillian and Betty Ratner School -  Through its Montessori and rigorous academic Day School programs, the Ratner School provides children with a strong sense of self and the resources they need to achieve in the classroom and in life. In an environment enriched by universal Judaic values, Montessori influence and a mosaic of diverse cultures, each child thrives.

Ruffing Montessori - Ruffing's mission is to employ the Montessori philosophy and methods to educate young people to their fullest potential, instilling a deep sense of personal independence and social responsibility. With the knowledge that they are citizens of the world, they will contribute to that world by making decisions based on the highest order of ethics and conscience.  

The University School - An all boys’ school that understands how boys learn best, responding with a developmentally appropriate curriculum and school culture. The University School prides itself as a safe and comfortable zone where boys are free to discover and develop his own intellectual, athletic and artistic abilities. Students are free to pursue their own interests under the guidance of attentive adults without the judgment of what a boy can or cannot do.  

Western Reserve Academy
- Founded in 1826 and located in historic Hudson, Ohio, WRA is a private, mid-sized coeducational boarding and day school for grades 9-12. Its students come from more than 20 countries and choose the school for its fine academic, art, and athletic programs, and for the school's commitment to a set of fundamental values: excellence, integrity, compassion.
