Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year!!! Welcome to the second year of the Let My People Knowsletter. We’re here, online and in person, to provide information and resources to help you live, play, prosper and CONNECT in Jewish (and not-so-Jewish) Cleveland. Our resolution is to help build a more caring and connected community for you and your family. What do you want in 2011? Share your New Year’s Resolutions and wishes with us on Let My People Know Cleveland’s Facebook page.
Kids Celebrate 2011!
There are lots of ways to celebrate the New Year! Check out these kid-friendly and adults-only ideas:
Hug a Tree (Earth Day - Jewish Style)
Tu B'Shevat (January 20, 2011) is Earth Day – Jewish style. It’s a great day to give thanks for the food, shelter and shade that trees provide.
- Consider throwing a birthday party for the trees – complete with cake, song and a big tree hug. Adults can visit the Union for Reform Judaism’s Greening 101 to become more environmentally aware.
- Since it’s tricky to plant trees in January, you can plant parsley seeds that will sprout in time for the Passover seder.
Winter Family Fun
Help the Homeless
Give back – feel great! Help Operation Warm-Up & Cleveland’s homeless community. Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Network (JVN) is partnering with National Council of Jewish Women, Cleveland Section (NCJW, CS) and other Jewish organizations to collect winter items for InterAct Cleveland’s Homeless Stand Down. Learn how you can bring warmth, comfort and kindness to those in need.
PJ Library News!
- Special THANKS to Stan Loveman, Stacy Stoller, and a dozen other PJ Library parents who shared “The Only One Club” by Jane Naliboff this holiday season. From the Solon Library, to a Daisy Troop in Chagrin Falls, to the entire first grade class at Longfellow Elementary School in Eastlake, kids of all backgrounds learned that they were unique and special. Check out the photos.
- PJ Parents Needed: Bring a PJ Library book and an easy-to-lead lesson plan to your kid’s school, play group or favorite hang-out, or offer to host a “neighborhood nosh” for PJ families in your community to meet and share yummy treats. Contact Kelly at krubanenko@jcfcleve.org for parent-led curriculum, fun craft ideas, and a stipend ($$$)!
- Save the date: The PJ Library ® joins NCJW for “Play It Safe.” Sunday, February 13, 2011 (12-4 p.m.) We’ll share PJ Library favorite “The Peace Book” by Todd Parr and learn about constructive play, the effects of violent toys and video games on children’s behavior, and gun safety. E-mail krubanenko@jcfcleve.org for more details.
- Show PJ Library love on Facebook! Join the PJ Library-Cleveland Facebook fan page. Meet other PJ parents, help determine upcoming events, post pictures, share feedback… and have the opportunity to say THANKS to our generous donors. Please help spread the word!!!
